Kathryn Turrentine is a Senior Presentation Specialist at Lowell Observatory and will be taking on double duty; both as the Astronomy on Tap host and presenting how citizen scientists can help contribute to astronomical observations and research. Kathryn will be talking about a citizen science project called Exoplanet Watch that she has been working on the past couple months. She will discuss how she has been looking through archive data of transits of exoplanets (planets outside our solar system) from observations from a robotic telescope. From the data that she has gathered, she will explain about the process of how the data is analyzed and reduced from a free software tool called EXOTIC, which creates light curves of the exoplanets data. This data can be uploaded into an Exoplanet database in which you can receive credit for your work. Also, Kathryn will share other citizen scientist projects that you can do from home!
