This month’s speaker is Ian Marrs. Ian is a Ph.D candidate at Northern Arizona University in the Astronomy and Planetary Science Department. Ian will be talking about how the surface of modern Mars shows evidence of past and present glaciation. Martian glaciers are observable from spacecraft, but no rover has explored them on the ground. Instead, to learn about the evolution of Earth and Mars, we must use Earth’s glaciers as a comparison for the Martian counterparts. We conducted a field study of two glaciers in arctic Sweden to compare with glaciers on Mars using water chemistry, mineralogy, and spectroscopy.
