Come check out Astronomy on Tap Triangle (AoTT), our North Carolina chapter of serving up short, engaging talks about astronomy over beer! For this 10th season of AoTT, we’ll be in Fullsteam-ATC’s beautiful new location at the Boiler Room at the historic American Tobacco Campus (ATC) in downtown Durham. Events will be held on the first Tuesday of the month and are free and open to the public.
Our second event of the semester will be held on Tuesday, October 6th, from 7:00-8:30 PM! Talks details are included below. Grab a drink (or two) at Fullsteam-ATC and head to their 100-seat theater for a night filled with astronomy, trivia, and fun. Free parking (after 5 PM) is available in the North and South Parking Decks surrounding the American Tobacco Campus. If an attendant asks for payment during a special event (e.g., baseball game), just let them know you’re there to visit Fullsteam Brewery, and they should wave you through.
“Journey through the Universe: the Search for Life Beyond Earth” Dr. Rachel Smith (NC Museum of Natural Sciences) Join us for an exciting tour through the universe as Dr. Rachel Smith discusses the search for life beyond Earth. She will start on our own planet, the only one with life as we know it, and go through the solar system to the exoplanets and known data sets in deep space, exploring how we search for habitability in the universe. Dr. Smith will also discuss some of her current research on massive forming stars and how they connect to the formation of the solar system about 4.6 billion years ago.
