Come check out Astronomy on Tap Triangle, our North Carolina chapter of short and engaging talks about astronomy over beer. You will find us in the taproom of Durty Bull Brewing Company in Durham, NC from 7-8:30 PM on Wednesday, May 14th!
All large galaxies contain supermassive black holes at their centers that have profoundly influenced the evolution of galaxies throughout cosmic time. The mechanisms for growing these black holes into their supermassive state remain an open question shaping much of current astrophysical research. A key link to the answer is detecting and characterizing intermediate mass black holes; yet they are scandalously rare. Join us as Dr. Chris Richardson presents his group’s progress in finding these cosmic relics in the early Universe, largely guided by the recent observations with the James Webb Space Telescope.
Don’t forget to get there on time for a quick round of astronomy trivia and special prizes!
There is always lots of time to ask questions and interact with the presenters and other scientists who inevitably stick around for the beer. We can’t wait to see you there!
