NC Science Trail: Canoe Hike

We will be learning the basics of canoeing and then trying out our new skills by maneuvering through the Cypress swamp. This is a slow and calm canoeing experience and great for beginners or if you want to get a closer look at the Cypresstrees. YOU MUST SIGN-UP. Call the park office at 910-436-4681 to reserve a spot. Limit is 10 visitors. Please allow approximately 15 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the Rain Shelter. Age limit is 8 years old and older.

NC Science Trail: Carolina Science Cafe | Earthquakes: Shake, Rattle, and Roll!

Join us for our next installment of the Carolina Science Cafe, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center’s free, current science awareness program. For the August cafe, we will welcome Amy Pitts, Senior Geologist for Education and Outreach at the North Carolina Geological Survey. Designed for adults, this program explores science topics making national and international headlines and offers the chance to meet the experts behind the headlines. The Carolina Science Cafe is hosted at Haw River Tab & Table in Carrboro on Tuesday, August 6th, starting at 6:00 p.m. with light appetizers available for all attendees. Geologists don’t just study rocks and minerals. Earth hazards like landslides, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes are an important part of our profession. NC Science Trail: Keep your Eye on the Ball

Step up to the plate for a unique program where you’ll explore the inner workings of the eye through a hands-on cow eye dissection. The 45-minute dissection session will give you a closer look at how our eyes work to track fast-moving objects. Saturday, August 3rd at 2 PM in the North Lobby. Price includes a cow eye specimen. Come check out the macro organisms that live in the mysterious waters here at the park with Ranger Baker! We will be netting small creatures that live in the secret pond such as crayfish, tadpoles, and more but we’ll need your help identifying some of the others!
