FishSpotter

FishSpotter is a free browser game from PEBL CIC, a small UK marine non-profit. Cameras sit on the seabed at seaweed and shellfish farms around the UK coast and record short clips of whatever passes. We’ve captured everything from Pollacks racing Wrasse, Crabs having a scrum, Seabirds diving, and now and then a cuttlefish laying eggs on the camera itself.

A player watches a clip, guesses the species, then sees how that answer compares with everyone else who has watched it. Where enough people independently land on the same identification, we use that consensus to correct our own reference labels. The community is the authority here, not just a source of clicks, so players are improving the dataset, not only feeding it. There is nothing to download and no account needed to play. Nothing is for sale either.
