More Information

Look for desert wildflowers and learn about the Sonoran Desert ecosystem during this guided hike with Ranger Eric. Join Ranger Eric to look for and learn about wildflowers and other plants of the Sonoran Desert on this 1.8-mile roundtrip hike on the Rock Peak Wash Trail. We should have an abundance of wildflowers this spring following the wet late fall and early winter. The trail is on easy grade but rated as moderate, as it involves hiking in a sandy wash for the entire length. We will meet at the Rock Peak Wash Trailhead at the south end of the park and hike 0.9-mile up to the intersection with the San Tan Trail loop, then hike back the way we came. Please wear protective clothing and/or sunscreen, sturdy footwear, and carry ample water and snacks for yourself. MEETING LOCATION: Rock Peak Wash Trailhead at the south end of the park. Parks map: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/san-tan-8x11.pdf Exact meeting location (Google Maps): https://maps.app.goo.gl/mtS6LZgFL5rDGtsP9 Restrooms are NOT available at the trailhead, but are available at the Nature Center. Self-pay envelopes are available at the trailhead ($10 per vehicle); please bring cash! Alternatively, you can pay at the Nature Center and then drive over to the Rock Peak Wash Trailhead. Maricopa County Parks annual passes also accepted (place hangtag on rearview mirror). Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 7 with your name, phone number, and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 3/26/2026.
