Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Fitness Hike – Veterans Day Appreciation

Join Ranger Jacque for an invigorating 5.8-mile fitness hike through the beautiful Cave Creek Regional Park. This moderate-difficult rated hike features approximately 411 feet of elevation gain and will traverse the Go John Trail. The terrain includes frequently rocky and uneven ground, with some gradual inclines. Due to its length, this hike will be challenging for some participants, so please know your limits and come prepared. On this special Veterans Day, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation is proud to honor all active and inactive military personnel by waiving the $7 per vehicle day-use park entry fee for them. This tradition of observing Veterans Day as Military Appreciation Day has been in place annually since 2005, offering service members an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful regional parks. Maricopa County supervisors encourage veterans to explore the 645 miles of wilderness trails our regional park system has to offer and find a day of well-deserved respite and peace in the gorgeous Sonoran Desert. We are grateful for their selflessness and valor. This hike also is a great way to add miles to your 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge! The annual challenge runs from November 1 to February 8, encouraging participants to hike, run, bike, or horseback ride 100 miles within 100 days. For your safety and comfort, please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, bring plenty of water, and apply sun protection (hat, sunscreen). Restrooms and water are available at the Go John Trailhead Parking, where we will meet. No pets, please. This program is weather-dependent. Please check our website for cancellations before attending. For all others, please be prepared for a $7 per vehicle entry fee, annual pass, or service member ID to enter Cave Creek Regional Park.
