Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Sunset Hike

Ranger Derik leads this hike to watch the sun set behind the mountains and the stars start to shine in the sky. We will listen for coyote and owl calls and watch for bat silhouettes against the dimly lit sky. Bring your blacklight and regular flashlight to look for other evening critters such as scorpions, kangaroo rats, stink bugs and more. The route uses sections of Quail, Saddle and Baseline trails for just under 3 miles. The terrain ranges from even and smooth to uneven with small to medium rocks underfoot. No pets, please. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Restrooms and water are available at the Nature Center.
