More Information

Our Star Parties are held at one of our public star party sites which have an excellent view of the night sky. Parties begin before sunset so equipment setup may be completed in the daylight. As astronomical twilight nears its end, "First Light" experiences for new telescope owners may be experienced and the dark sky provides opportunities for more experienced operators to try new skills. Visitors without telescopes are encouraged to look though one of the PAS member's observing telescopes. Several PAS members also operate EAA setups. These are "Electronic Assisted Astronomy" rigs that incorporate digital cameras in place of the visual eyepiece. The camera "looks through the telescope" and transmits what it sees to a computer screen for viewing. "Dark Sky" etiquette - NO WHITE light, watch your step in the dark – careful not to knock over equipment, be aware of wires on the ground. ASK PERMISSION Make sure you have the owner’s permission before touching their telescope or other equipment. Instructions You do not need a telescope to attend this event, however, if you bring your own telescope, please make sure to include all accessories. Bring the tripod, the mount, the telescope, all eyepieces/cameras, and a battery power supply if your mount is automated (GoTo). The site has no electrical outlets. No food or drink is provided for this event. Please bring your own water & snacks as desired, but make sure you pack out all empty bottles, cans, and trash. See the attached map for details on where to set up your telescope and where the operators should park. NOTE: Gate closes at 7:00pm ... exit is open until 11:00pm, but no entry after 7:00pm. Paved parking, rustic toilets, but no running water ... bring your own water, snacks, and a chair. Location: Apache Wash Trailhead Park, 1600 East Sonoran Desert Drive, Phoenix AZ 85331
