Come with Ranger Shaun for a morning stroll and see if we can find a burro (or a burrow, who’s picky?) along the Wild Burro Trail! There are tons of things to see at Lake Pleasant, but everyone loves the burros! Along Wild Burro trail you’ll get a chance to walk through several different communities with differing plant composition due to the geography around the lake. We’ll be on the lookout for burro, of course, but other wildlife along this trail includes multiple lizard species, birds, a plethora of rodents, innumerable insects and arachnids, a collection of snakes (both venomous and not, no touching please), plus more if you really get lucky or look hard. Ranger Shaun will be along to point out some of the finer points along the way, but you never really know what you might find along the 2.0-mile trail. Wild Burro is an easy rated 2.0-mile ONE WAY trail. Hikers are welcome to walk back with the Ranger making for a 4.0-mile ROUND TRIP hike. Hikers who prefer may break at the 2.0-mile mark and be picked up at the Pipeline Canyon Day Use Area or continue on to the Pipeline Canyon Trail. There are restrooms and water at both trailheads. MEETING LOCATION: Wild Burro Day Use Area (Note: Wild Burro Trailhead is outside of Wild Burro Day Use area; however, the Day Use area has better parking and a restroom facility with water fountain. Please meet at the DAY USE area.) Precise Meeting Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/zkFTVPV6LZKnb16n6 Limit 15 participants. To register, please email Ranger Shaun at shaun.barnett@maricopa.gov with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on 9/2/2025. PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online or call the Nature Center before coming to the park.
