Explore the rich and complex history of modern preservation efforts within Walnut Canyon. This historic cabin was built for the first forest rangers tasked with safeguarding the resources of the monument. Participants will embark on a 2-mile round-trip hike with a knowledgeable park ranger, uncovering the diverse history of this land and learning how the occupants of Ranger Cabin approached preservation. The program concludes with an informative tour of the cabin, followed by the hike back to the visitor center. Join a ranger guided hike for an immersive experience that explores the depths of Walnut Canyon with every step. Discover the history, wildlife, and resources and connect with your public lands while enjoying the beauty of the landscape. Know Before You Go: Distance: The Ranger Cabin Hike covers 2 miles round-trip. Trail Conditions: The path to Ranger Cabin consists of dirt surfaces with uneven and rocky sections. Much of the trail is unshaded. Preparation: Participants should wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring plenty of water, dress in layers, and ensure they have sun protection. Arrival Time: Please arrive 15-30 minutes early and meet at the Walnut Canyon Visitor Center, ready to begin the program at 10:00 AM.
